“You don’t need to call the medical team—no need to go to all that trouble.”
Danielle really didn’t want to go back to the bridal house.
Her grandmother’s voice was firm. “What are you saying? You’re Mrs. Davidson; how could that be any trouble?”
“I just don’t want you running yourself ragged, having to make another trip to the hospital. It’s settled. Understood?”
Her grandmother had spoken—the matter was decided. There would be no room for argument.
When she made up her mind, no one ever managed to change it.
Especially when it came to Danielle’s health.
Back when Danielle was little, she was sickly for a while, and both her grandmother and her mom would rush around, worried sick about her.
Ever since then, her grandmother always saw her as fragile. The slightest ailment meant a thorough checkup, just in case.
She was terrified something might happen to Danielle.
Danielle sighed softly, glancing at her watch. If she didn’t leave for the factory now, she’d be late, and she didn’t want to make her grandmother worry any more than she already did.
In the end, she relented. “Okay, Grandma. I understand.”
Hearing her agree, her grandmother finally sounded relieved.
“Something so important, and nobody even told me. If I hadn’t heard it from Liam, I’d still be completely in the dark.”
Danielle pressed her lips together, trying to soothe her. “You’re getting older, Grandma. We just didn’t want you to worry.”
Her grandmother grumbled a while longer before finally hanging up.
As soon as the call ended, Danielle grabbed her keys and drove straight to the factory.
She didn’t finish work until eight that evening.
After clocking out, she headed for the house she and Alexander used to share.
But after a moment’s hesitation, she pulled out her phone and dialed Alexander.
It took a while before he picked up.
“What is it?” His voice was cool and distant.
“Are you at the house?”
“Hospital,” Alexander replied, curt as ever, clearly not interested in conversation.
