In the blink of an eye, the grand opening of AetherX Dynamics had arrived.
Gian and Danielle got themselves ready with minimal fuss, then set off by car toward the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
For this launch, AetherX Dynamics had pulled out all the stops. They’d sent out invitations far and wide, bringing in experts from across the industry to help generate buzz for the new company.
Even the press was out in full force—business journalists wielding cameras and microphones, eager for a scoop.
The news about Newsworld’s latest branch had spread like wildfire, and today, nearly half the companies in the field had sent representatives to the university.
After parking, Gian stepped out and began greeting colleagues and acquaintances, slipping easily into animated conversation. Danielle stood quietly at his side, listening to their banter. She rarely interjected on such occasions—Gian was far more at ease in these circles than she was.
He knew she’d been working hard, and in situations like this, he rarely expected her to do much more than make an appearance.
“And who might this be?” Mr. Marcus turned his attention toward Danielle, his eyes brightening with interest. Truth be told, he’d noticed her from the start, but only now found a moment to ask.
Danielle introduced herself with practiced poise, a polite, formulaic smile on her lips.
Mr. Marcus nodded thoughtfully. “Ah, I believe I’ve heard of Ms. Crawford. Word is, the latest projects at Ninesky are all being led by you. Seems Ninesky truly attracts exceptional talent.”
She certainly didn’t look like someone out of her depth.
Gian smiled and nodded. “Absolutely. She’s now the cornerstone of our technical team at Ninesky.”
If Gian was singing her praises, that was endorsement enough. Blackwood Research Institute was a national leader, and Gian himself was a principal researcher there; people in the field trusted his judgment.
Mr. Marcus adjusted his glasses and turned to Danielle. “Ms. Crawford, I have some technical questions I’d love to discuss with you, if you have a moment?”
He made sure to ask politely.
Danielle’s smile brightened. “I’d be glad to.”
