“Those little tricks of yours are nothing to brag about. Don’t embarrass yourself.”
Gian crossed his arms, casting a cold glance at Liam. “You want to run your mouth all day, be my guest. If you want to grovel for someone’s approval, that’s your business—but don’t drag others into your little comparison games.”
With that, he took Danielle by the hand and walked away without another word.
Liam watched them leave, a chilly smirk curling at his lips. The scorn in his expression was unmistakable.
A man who claims to want the best for his company, yet can’t even keep his head straight when a woman’s involved—pathetic. From where Liam stood, Ninesky wouldn’t last much longer.
Meanwhile, Millie finished chatting with the others and prepared to take the stage for her speech.
Liam strode over and glanced at Alexander. “Alex, I have to say, Ninesky’s hiring decisions seem awfully questionable. Gian is unreliable, to put it mildly.”
“Are we really going to partner with a company like that? I’m honestly worried they’ll drag us down with them.”
In their field, reputation was everything. It had taken years of hard work to get this far. If they were branded as unprofessional now, all those years would go up in smoke.
Alexander stood near the podium, microphone in hand. His gaze was unreadable, dark eyes flicking briefly to Danielle across the room.
She always dressed the part at these events—elegant and poised, with a cool confidence that made her stand out. Even in a crowd, she drew attention; more than a few glances lingered on her.
It was impossible not to notice a woman like her.
Alexander drew his gaze back with measured calm. His voice was low and even. “The government is backing this partnership. Let’s just play along.”
Liam understood instantly. When the government arranged something, you didn’t get to say no. If this were an open bidding process, Ninesky wouldn’t have a prayer of working with them. Gian must have pulled strings at Blackwood Research Institute to get his foot in the door; otherwise, Ninesky wouldn’t even rate a meeting, let alone a collaboration.
