The Officer's Runaway Wife and Secret Son novel Chapter 526

Clara's heart skipped a beat, the few sheets of paper suddenly feeling heavy in her hands.

She flipped through them. The date on the will was from right around the time she had first left Brighton City. The thick stack behind it was entirely made up of amendments.

There was no set pattern to the dates—sometimes just two months apart, sometimes a whole year.

Basically, whenever he acquired a new asset he could leave to her, he went straight to Daniel to sign a supplementary agreement.

Forcing her voice to stay steady, Clara playfully shook the stack of documents. "Mr. Reed didn't make much off this job of yours, but he sure had to put in the hours. He must have been annoyed to death."

Rhys smiled, taking her hand and pressing a kiss to the ring on her fourth finger.

"Yeah, which is why I'm completely penniless now. From now on, please make sure you give me my monthly allowance on time, Mrs. Huntington."

Clara forced her tears back and turned to look out the window.

Pedestrians hurried along the street—some rushing to catch the subway, others buying breakfast from a food truck. It was an ordinary scene, no different from any other weekday morning.

But today, the sunlight looked incredibly beautiful to her.

"Depends on your behavior."

At noon, the whole group naturally gathered for a massive, lively feast at Riverside Court.

The dining table couldn't fit everyone, so Clara's dad, Clara's mom, and Mia's family sat on one side, while their core group of friends formed a circle around the coffee table.

Knowing Rhys had to report to the command center the next morning, everyone silently agreed not to overstay their welcome and began wrapping things up early.

Emily was in high spirits and had a bit too much to drink, mixing red wine, white wine, and liquor. Whenever Daniel tried to cut her off, she sneakily took sips from Clara's dad's glass. Daniel spent the entire meal with his brows knotted in frustration.

When it was time to leave, she clung to Clara, refusing to let go, mumbling "Finally, finally" over and over. In the end, Daniel had to carry her out.

Literally thrown over his shoulder.

Simon and Alex were the last to leave. They had a night flight back to Heron Bay, which meant they needed to head to the airport early.

Before taking off, the self-proclaimed "head bestie" was dragged out to the balcony by Rhys for a long, hushed conversation.

Through the glass door, Clara watched them stand face-to-face. Rhys said something, and Simon frowned, rolled his eyes, and finally gave a reluctant nod.

Clara couldn't guess what they were talking about, but she figured Rhys was asking him for another favor—likely one involving her.

She didn't know when those two had gotten close enough to warrant private balcony chats.

She couldn't help but stare for an extra second.

As Simon pushed the door open to come back inside, he let out a fake cough.

"I'll think about what you said, but I'll have to see what Clara wants. I'm not in the business of forcing my friends into anything."

Rhys nodded compliantly. "Okay."

"If Clara ever complains to me about you, I'll take her and Felix away on the spot."
