Margot sat in the armchair by the window, lazily tossing random items into her luggage.
She looked up at the interruption. "Where could I possibly go? I'm under a travel ban. I'll just check into a hotel. This house could be seized by tomorrow. Shouldn't you be packing instead of bothering me?"
Veronica stared at her, no longer bothering to hide the absolute disgust in her eyes.
The girl had caused an apocalyptic disaster, and now she was planning to just cut and run?
"Now you want to hide. Were you out of your mind when you blew this up? Margot, you dragged the entire Johnson family down with you just to satisfy your own twisted obsessions. Did you really think you could just walk away?"
"I'm still not quite on your level of ruthless self-interest," Margot sneered. "Aren't you only looking out for yourself? Now that the Johnson family is crumbling, you suddenly want to play the responsible mother and blame me?"
Veronica went pale with rage. "I taught you so you could secure Rhys. And what did you do? You completely butchered a winning hand. If you hadn't played smart and drugged Owen, Rhys might not have loved you, but he wouldn't have stood by and watched the Johnson family burn."
Rhys's guilt and soft heart had been their ultimate safety net.
As long as Margot kept the moral high ground, they always had leverage with the Huntington family and the Police Department.
They were all useless.
At the mention of his name, Margot's hands paused for a fraction of a second before she resumed tossing things into her bag.
"Drop the affectionate act. You think he cares about us? He transferred every single asset to Clara. Rhys is completely clean now, and he only has Clara. As far as he's concerned, we're worse than trash on the side of the road."
"Shut your mouth!"
Veronica's temples throbbed violently at the reminder that he had transferred all his wealth to Clara.
Her own biological son had chosen to give everything to a divorced woman rather than leave a single cent for his mother.
"You think you're going to have an easy life now that your father is locked up?"
Veronica lunged forward, snatching the designer watch from Margot's hand and smashing it onto the floor.
