"Mommy! Say yes!"
Felix stomped his feet anxiously.
Clara sniffled.
Tears were streaming down her face. A fleeting thought crossed her mind: I didn't even put on makeup, I'm wearing casual clothes, my hair is in a messy ponytail, and I don't even have earrings on.
But none of it mattered.
Everything faded the moment he knelt down.
She looked at Rhys and extended her left hand.
Rhys carefully slipped the diamond ring onto her ring finger.
It was a perfect fit.
The crowd was quiet, except for Felix, who was bouncing around the entire time.
When he saw his dad stand up and hug his mom, he tackled their legs, squeezing himself between them.
"I want a hug too! Me too!"
Rhys scooped his son up with one arm, sandwiching him between them.
Felix threw one arm around Rhys's neck and the other around Clara's, pulling their heads together.
"We have to do this every day from now on."
Rhys's eyes were glistening with unshed tears, but he laughed.
"Okay, every day."
In the midst of the lively scene, the only quiet spot was the screen.
Rhys met Noah's gaze across the distance.
Rhys offered a small nod. "Thank you."
Clara felt a bit guilty. "I'm sorry for dragging you into this. Isn't it barely dawn over there?"
Noah smiled. "It's past eight. I couldn't be there in person, so the least I could do was watch."
His tone was breezy, devoid of jealousy or bitterness.
Rhys had always been Clara's ultimate obsession. He had never been first in her heart, and losing to a man like this didn't feel so bad.
As they chatted, the sound of a door opening came from Noah's end, followed by a young woman's frantic voice.
"Dr. Carter, I finished the project report. The director said this afternoon—ah!"
Before she could finish, something crashed in the background.
Noah glanced off-screen.
His perpetually calm expression gave way to a hint of exasperation. He sighed and looked back.
"A little emergency here. I need to go handle it."
