The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1518

Was she really the killer?

“Slander!” Adela’s voice shook, her eyes red and wild. She frantically shook her head. “You’re just blaming me to protect yourselves. To protect Emily. How dare you accuse me.”

She didn’t kill her father. She didn’t. She just couldn’t have.

“Slander?” Charlotte glanced at the gun in Adela’s hand, her expression unreadable. Slowly, her fingers curled into a fist by her side. “Then why was your father under investigation?”

Adela was frozen, completely at a loss for words.

“And why did he end his own life?”

Charlotte had done her homework on the way here. Jackson had pulled up the facts. Adela had made mistake after mistake behind the scenes, and every time it was Kemp who cleaned up. Kemp could have taken a life sentence, kept breathing, but instead he chose death. He did it to keep the truth buried. To protect his only daughter.

Adela’s mouth opened, but nothing came out. Silent. Shaking.

“In high school, you bullied a classmate so badly they died. Your father covered it up.”

“In college, you drove without a license and hurt someone in a crash. He made sure it disappeared.”

“And once you started working in showbiz…” Charlotte’s lips curled into a cold laugh. “Come on, then. Who’s the real killer here? Who did your father die to protect?”

“Stop it!” Adela’s eyes flashed. She cut Charlotte off, voice breaking as tears spilled down her cheeks. “I didn’t kill my father. I didn’t.”

“Even if it’s my fault, so what?” In the next second, Adela regained her composure. She pressed the gun harshly against Emily’s head. “Like you’re all so innocent.”

“Oh, we’re negotiating now?” Her gaze swept over everyone before landing on Kenneth. Suddenly she burst into laughter, messy and desperate. “Fine. Marry me. You marry me, and I’ll let Emily go.”
