Kenneth stood there, not moving an inch, his dark eyes locked on Emily as she walked away without looking back once. It felt like his heart was being crushed under a mountain, making it hard to even breathe.

He put his hands on his hips, forcing a crooked smile, but the sound that slipped from his throat wasn’t really a laugh. Was she seriously just leaving him behind, treating him like he didn’t even exist? Alright, then. That’s how she wanted to play it? Fine.

"Kenneth, what’s so funny?" His agent walked over with a jacket, puzzled by the look on Kenneth’s face. "Are you, like, happy for Emily or something?"

His forced smile faded instantly. He tilted his head, eyes narrowing in that cold, dangerous way. "What did you say?"

"Jarrod might be a bit younger than Emily, but he’s so energetic and outgoing." The agent didn’t notice Kenneth’s mood as he settled the jacket over his shoulders, clearly excited. "Their personalities totally balance each other out. And since they’re teaming up again, maybe there’s a real chance for something special to happen."

"Sparks? Give me a break!" Kenneth’s temper flared. He yanked the jacket off, tossed it right back into the agent’s arms, his handsome features turning to stone. "When did you lose your mind?"

"Huh?" The agent stood there, stunned by both the outburst and almost being hit by the jacket. Before he had a chance to ask anything else, Kenneth was already striding away, leaving him confused and frowning.

By seven in the evening, Emily and Jarrod were stepping out of the restaurant together.

"Thanks for the meal." Jarrod was right next to her, carrying her bag, and sticking close. "It was really fun, having dinner with you."

His head was lowered just a bit, eyes never leaving her face. That warm, easygoing smile of his didn’t fade for a second.

Emily managed a small smile, reaching for her bag. "Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks."
