The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1406

She was going to prove to J that she had what it took.

“Dad…”

The moment her father picked up, Adela’s tears wouldn’t stop. Her voice trembled as she told him everything that had happened.

“She did what? She not only stole the StoryVenture investment but also kicked you out of the crew?”

On the other end of the line, Kemp’s voice thundered. The thought of anyone hurting his daughter sent his anger soaring. “She knows who you are and still dared to pull something like this? Does she think I’m invisible? Don’t worry, baby. Dad’s going to make this right.” His voice only grew sharper as he spoke.

He tossed his phone on the desk, grabbed the landline, and scowled. “That project called Storm… Where are we on that?”

The staff member instantly straightened up at the mention of Storm, excitement in her tone. “We just got the filming permit approved.”

“That show has a problem. Put the permit on hold.”

Kemp’s voice was icy.

Mess with his daughter? Then that show didn’t deserve to see the light of day.

“Excuse me?”

The staff member was so shocked she nearly bit her tongue. “Mr. Kemp, are you saying there’s an issue with Storm and we need to halt the permit?”

She was a huge J fan and had binge-read all the comics. The story and artwork were basically the gold standard in the industry—exciting, intense, and full of heart. Even better, it had all the right values. If it got adapted for TV, it was almost guaranteed to blow up.

Every review stage had given it the green light. For Kemp to personally call about this… Something shady was definitely going on behind the scenes.

“Just do it,” Kemp said, his voice leaving no room for argument. “I want this handled in the next thirty minutes.”

“…Understood.”
