Emily’s smile grew even brighter, and Pam instantly knew she was right.

Pam just stared at her, totally stunned. Honestly, she’d thought Emily would at least try to play hard to get for a month or so. Clearly, she had way too much faith in Emily’s self-restraint. If it wasn’t for Kenneth possibly noticing something was up, Pam was convinced Emily would have said yes to him on day one.

“There’s so much talk about you two online,” Pam sighed, her tone half worried and half wishing things could be easier. She knew all about Emily’s not-so-secret crush and how tough it had been for her. “A lot of crazy fans keep saying you’re not good enough for Kenneth.”

People claimed the relationship was just a publicity stunt. Some haters had even been spreading rumors and posting all kinds of nasty stuff about Emily.

“If you ever actually go public with this…” Pam frowned, her voice soft, and concern in her eyes. “Are you really ready for all the drama that’ll come with it?”

Emily wiped her heavy makeup away, leaving nothing but her bare, beautiful face behind. She didn’t even stop to think. “When I first got into this business, I heard every cruel thing people could come up with. But I survived, didn’t I?” She paused and her eyes softened. “And now I have Kenneth.”

He would look out for her.

“So really,” Emily said, her lips pulling into a gentle smile, “as long as us being together doesn’t mess with his career, I don’t care about anything else.”

Pam was silent for a long moment before finally letting out a sigh, half helpless and half protective. “You’ve gone through so much, just to be with him. If Kenneth ever treats you badly, I swear I’ll be the first one to go after him.”

Emily couldn’t help but laugh. Honestly, Anthony and Charlotte would probably get to Kenneth before Pam even had the chance to step in.

They kept chatting, no real purpose, totally unaware that Jarrod—who had just finished wiping off his own makeup and was on his way out—stood quietly by the half-open door.
