The Heartless Alpha’s Beloved Luna (Avery and Gideon) novel Chapter 375

| thought about that for a moment, letting Sebastian’s words sink in. Gideon kicked down the bathroom door to get to me, sensing my need through the bond. It wasn’t that it surprised me, exactly. In fact, it didn’t surprise me at all. That was the hard part. Knowing that, even when | was drugged and still wary of Gideon, my subconscious-my wolf-had known that he was the one | should call for help. That he would come for me, despite everything, when | needed him the most.

| still couldn’t trust him as far as | could throw him, which wasn’t very far at all, considering the fact that he was practically three times my size. But despite my best efforts, a small part of me softened toward him in that moment | tried to push it down, but it was no use. Gideon had saved me, and that was a fact. If he hadn’t been there, with the bond open from his end as if waiting for me to use it, then that bartender would have had his way with me. 1 There was no way | could ignore that. Not that it made me change my opinions of him, but |… appreciated what he had done.

Just then, a sound near the door made us both look up. Colt was standing in the doorway with his hand on Bjorn’s shoulder. “Bjorn,” | said, pushing myself up alittle. “You shouldn’t be here Before | could finish, Bjorn practically launched himself across the room. He jumped onto my bed and threw himself into my arms, embracing me so tightly | could hardly breathe. “Mom, are you okay?” he asked, his voice muffled by my hair. He squeezed me tighter. “I was so worried…” | let out a small breath and rubbed my son’s back with one hand, shooting Colt and Sebastian a look over his shoulder.

“| had to tell him,” Sebastian said, at least having the decency to look a little sheepish. “I mean, you were in the hospital all night, so he was already asking about you.” Oh. | glanced at the clock, realizing for the first time that it was, seven in the morning. Those drugs had knocked me out all night. Suddenly, | was even more glad for Gideon’s quick thinking Bjorn pulled back just enough to look at me and wrinkled his nose. “You smell funny.” | snorted. “It’s the hospital smell.” He shook his head. “No, it’s not that. It’s…” He grabbed a piece of my hair and sniffed it.

“You smell like that guy. The one who | thought had a mustache. Mr… Gideon?” | froze, shooting Sebastian a look. He said nothing. Bjorn released my hair and sighed. He was too smart not to notice. “So it was him,” he said. “I really, really like him, you know. Can we please see him again?” He looked between me and Sebastian. “Can we let him visit more often? Please?” | hesitated, not sure what to say. My first instinct was to say no, and that was final. But then | thought about Gideon kicking down the bathroom door just to get to me.

| thought about the last thing I’d seen before passing out for good-a tall, dark figure and a pair of arms lifting me from the ground-and | knew it was Gideon carrying me to safety. And in that moment, | just… couldn’t tell my son no. Because despite everything, his father had saved me, and that was what allowed me to see my son again at all, and a small part of me softened toward him because of that. The words came out before | could stop myself. “Sure,” | said. “We can let him visit every so often.” 2 Everyone stared at me with looks of shock that perfectly matched my own.
