The Heartless Alpha’s Beloved Luna (Avery and Gideon) novel Chapter 374

Chapter 374 – Avery’s POV The smell of antiseptic burned my nostrils. | heard machines beeping around me, and fluorescent lights flickering faintly behind my eyelids. For a moment, | thought | was in hell, or some kind of purgatory. | always hated hospitals. They were too loud, too sterile, too chaotic. My wolf could always sense the pain around me, too, and it distracted me and made my chest ache. It didn’t help any, either, that the drugs in my system were making it hard to breathe. With a groan, | cracked one eye open, then the other.

It took a moment for my vision to adjust, but when it did, | found myself laying in a hospital bed. An IV was in my left arm, and a monitor was around my right index finger, hooked up to a machine that was beeping steadily beside me. The room was dimly lit, the overhead lights off. The bright hallway was all that provided illumination. | was alone. Briefly, panic overwhelmed me as my mind raced to recall what had happened. But it didn’t take long for the memories to come rushing back-the drink, the fogginess, the bartender trying to… | blocked that part out. The rest was pretty much a blur.

| vaguely remembered tall figures moving into the room, one lifting me into a strong pair of arms. Everything else… | couldn’t put my finger on it. “Oh, good. You’re awake.” | looked up to see Sebastian striding into the room. His face was pale and drawn with worry, and he rushed over to the side of my bed, clasping my hand in his. “How are you feeling?” he asked. “What’s worse than shit?” | muttered. My voice was raw and gravelly, as if | had smoked a pack of cigarettes while | was sleeping. Everything hurt; my skin burned like someone had taken matches to it.

My chest felt like it was caving in. Each breath was a labor, and most of all, | felt like | was going to puke. Sebastian, surprisingly, seemed to notice that last part without me even saying. My face must have suddenly gone very green, because he quickly grabbed a clean bedpan from the side table and held it out. | doubled over the edge of the bed and threw up. It tasted like alcohol and bile. When | was finished, | felt less nauseous, but now | was shaking.

A nurse came and gave me some medication, checked my vitals, and gave me a sleeve of saltine crackers to munch on, then took the bedpan away. Once Sebastian and | were alone again, | nibbled on the corner of a cracker and groaned under my breath, leaning back against my pillows. He pulled a chair up to the side of my bed and looked at me. “So,” he said. “That bartender spiked your drink.” “| figured.” “Did he touch you?” | nodded. Sebastian’s face darkened. “He’ll be prosecuted, Avery. You don’t need to worry about it.

“Thanks.” | looked at my friend, then said, “What happened after you found me?” Sebastian hesitated for a long moment, his mouth opening and closing a few times as if not really sure where to begin. Then, he said, “I wasn’t the one who found you. It was Gideon.” : The saltine hovered just in front of my lips. “Gideon?” | whispered. Sebastian nodded, watching my expression carefully. | furrowed my brow, thinking, and suddenly it clicked. | vaguely recalled doing something in the spur of the moment, when that bartender locked me in the bathroom and tried to force himself on me.

“1 used the mate bond,” I groaned, passing my hand over my face. “Shit” “Why “shit?” Sebastian asked, leaning forward with his elbows braced on his knees. “You did it, and it saved you. Gideon acted very quickly, I’ll give him that. He kicked the door in and… The look on his face was positively murderous.”big sale: 100 bonus free fou you
