No guy would put up with that kind of challenge, and Lucas, especially, had always been jealous of Jace’s place in Lilly’s life.
Lucas let out a cold laugh. “Lilly, tonight, I swear, you’re going to regret this.”
He grabbed for her collar, clearly ready to tear her clothes apart.
But Lilly was ready. She whipped out the pepper spray she’d kept hidden at her waist and sprayed him right in the face.
Lucas never saw it coming. The burning liquid hit his eyes, and he screamed in pain. “Ah!”
Lilly didn’t waste a second. She shoved him away. “Lucas, do you really think I’d come here without a plan? I bought this pepper spray just for you.”
Last time, Lucas had tried to cross the line with her. If it hadn’t been for that driver, she might not have escaped. So this time, when Lucas asked to meet, she came prepared.
Lucas staggered up, his eyes red and furious. He glared at Lilly. “Lilly, my patience is wearing thin. Are you really going to refuse to marry me? Think carefully. If you say no, the Lynch family company is done.”
Lilly’s voice was icy. “Lucas, if my parents knew I was marrying you just to save the company, they’d never forgive me. They wouldn’t want peace that comes from sacrificing their daughter’s happiness.”
Lucas laughed, sharp and bitter. “Fine, Lilly. Just don’t come crying to me when you regret this. I’m going to see William right now. You’d better be ready.”
He stormed out, slamming the door behind him.
Lilly watched him go, her brows drawn together in determination. Did Lucas really think she’d just give in? That she’d let him break her? Not a chance.
She was going to find a way to save the Lynch family herself.
She pulled out her phone and called Alice, her dad’s assistant.
