The receptionist gave her an apologetic smile. “I’m really sorry, but our private club has strict rules. We have to follow them. Please don’t make things harder for us.”
Just then, a familiar voice called out, “Lilly.”
She turned and saw Lucas walking up. He had changed into a casual polo shirt, clearly ready for golf, and he’d pulled up in his bright red Ferrari, as usual.
Lucas grinned at her. “Here to see William? What a coincidence. He invited me for a round today. But it looks like you can’t even get inside. Maybe if you ask nicely, I’ll take you in as my guest.”
Lilly glared at him. “Don’t get so full of yourself, Lucas.”
He just smirked. “Can’t help it, Lilly. And trust me, I’m just getting started. You’ll see.”
The threat in his voice was clear.
At that moment, William’s assistant appeared at the door. “Mr. Matthis, welcome. Please come in. He is waiting for you.”
Lucas shot Lilly a look, his smile smug. “See that? I’m heading in. Last chance, Lilly. Want to ask me for help?”
She rolled her eyes. “Dream on.”
Lucas laughed. “You will, sooner or later. I’ll be waiting.”
With that, he strolled inside, leaving Lilly fuming at the entrance. She had no way to see William now, and it was driving her crazy. What was she supposed to do?
Frustrated, she pulled out her phone and started dialing Alice, hoping she might have an idea.
Inside, Lucas found William waiting.
“William, good to see you,” Lucas said, shaking his hand.
