Lilly stood there, clutching a pot of soup that had definitely seen better days. Her expression said it all. “Victoria, I’m so sorry. I completely messed up the soup.”
Victoria just laughed and stepped forward, taking the pot out of her hands. “Lilly, I’ve seen how you are in the kitchen. Let’s be real, cooking isn’t your thing. Don’t worry, I already called someone who actually knows what they’re doing.”
Lilly winced. She had tried her best, but it seemed like the kitchen really wasn’t for her. At least someone else was coming. That was a relief.
“Did you get a chef?” Lilly looked hopeful. “If I’d known, I would have just brought the chef from home.”
Victoria was about to respond when the doorbell suddenly rang, breaking up their conversation.
Lilly’s entire face lit up. “That must be the chef! They got here so fast. I’ll go get the door.”
She practically rushed to the door and opened it, ready to greet a professional. “Hi—”
But the word froze on her lips. Standing outside wasn’t some caterer in uniform, but someone tall and sharply familiar. Jason.
Jason was at her door.
She couldn’t believe it. Why would he be here? She just stared, caught completely off guard.
Jason looked at her, his expression unreadable. He barely glanced her way before Victoria showed up at her side, smiling. “Lilly, I called my brother! He can cook, so leave everything in the kitchen to him from now on.”
Jason came inside and sniffed the air, already frowning. “Why does it smell like something burnt?” Victoria pointed towards the kitchen and grinned. “That’s from the soup Lilly was making for me.”
Jason glanced into the pot. Then he gave Lilly a look that said everything he was thinking. “You are really talented.”
