David is with Ella?
Jessa’s face changed for a second, then she shook her head. “Lilly, you’ve got it wrong. There’s no way David would be with Ella.”
Lilly raised an eyebrow. “Oh really? And what makes you so sure?”
Jessa knew the answer, of course. It was all because of Heart Connect. Every time David got anywhere near Ella, he’d get this splitting headache, like someone was drilling into his skull. But there was no way she was telling Lilly about that. Instead, she just flashed a confident smile. “Trust me, Lilly. I’m willing to bet David is absolutely not with Ella.”
“Alright, let’s make it interesting. If he isn’t with Ella, I lose and I’ll call you Grandma for the rest of the day.”
Jessa grinned. “Deal. If David really is with Ella, then I’ll call you Grandma.”
So the bet was set. Whoever lost had to call the other one Grandma. Lilly picked up her phone, determination flashing in her eyes.
“Jessa, it’s time to find out. I’m calling Ella right now.”
“Go ahead. I’m not going anywhere. Lilly, you’d better get ready to say it.”
Lilly dialed Ella’s number. The ringtone played twice before Ella picked up, her voice light and clear. “Hey, Lilly.”
“Hey, Ella! Guess who I’m with? Jessa! David was supposed to meet her for dinner tonight at that fancy restaurant, but he totally flaked. Now we’re betting on where he is. I think he’s with you. So, Ella, is he there right now?”
“Lilly, I… ah!” Ella’s voice suddenly jumped with surprise.
Lilly shot to her feet, clutching her phone. “Ella, what happened? Are you okay?”
