Lilly’s lips curled into a sly smile. “Alright, I’m just going to sit here and watch. Go on, Jessa, hurry up and call him.”
She was obviously ready to enjoy the drama.
Jessa, though, was feeling pretty confident. There was no way something could go wrong with Heart Connect. She pulled out her phone, dialed David’s number, and gave Lilly a look full of certainty. “Just wait, Lilly. You’re about to eat your words.”
The ringtone played over and over, but no one picked up.
Then that cold, emotionless automated voice chimed in. “Sorry, the number you dialed is currently unavailable. Please try again later.”
David wasn’t picking up.
Why wasn’t he picking up?
Jessa started to panic a little. She called again. And again. No matter how many times she tried, David never answered.
Her heart sank. He wasn’t answering her calls.
He’d promised to meet her for dinner here last night, but now, he was nowhere to be seen.
What was going on?
Across from her, Lilly let out a snort. She’d been watching Jessa’s face, and the moment Jessa’s confidence crumbled, Lilly knew exactly what had happened.
She didn’t hold back. “What’s going on, Jessa? Why isn’t David here yet? Didn’t you call him? What did he say? Is he on his way or not?”
