“Bought the bed with me in mind, huh? So, what, you’ve been plotting to get me into it all along?”
Moss glanced down at her, her cheeks bright and beautiful. “You’re my wife. Sleeping with me is part of the job description.”
It meant a lot to Joanna that Moss had sent Louise away. She knew he was a man who cared deeply, and that move said he wanted to make things right between them. He had already compromised so much for her.
If he could change, maybe she could too. Maybe it was time to meet him halfway.
Marriage took work. Neither of them was getting any younger. There was no reason to keep wasting time.
Moss leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to her cheek.
Joanna immediately pushed him away. “Moss, what are you doing?”
He gave her a crooked grin. “What do you think? How about we go for round two?”
Joanna just rolled her eyes. “Moss, I’m serious. You really need to take it easy.”
Ignoring her warning, Moss shifted and pinned her beneath him. “Just one more time.”
They were laughing and tussling when a sudden knock interrupted them. A maid’s voice called out, “Sir, Madam?”
Joanna shoved Moss off her, panic flickering in her eyes. “Moss, someone’s at the door!”
Moss sighed, clearly annoyed. “What is it?” he called out.
“Sir, you have a visitor.”
He didn’t even try to hide his irritation. “Tell them I’m not home. If it’s important, they can make an appointment.”
He turned back to Joanna and tried to kiss her again.
She dodged, then bit his lower lip, just enough to make him flinch.
He pulled back, eyes narrowed with a mix of pain and amusement. “So you want to play rough, huh? You’re in trouble now.”
“Moss, will you stop it already… Ow!”
The maid’s voice came through the door again, louder this time. “Sir, you really have to come out. Mr. Harmon is here.”
