Louise left in a huff, and Joanna stood at the window, watching her go before heading back inside the villa.
Jessa spotted her mom coming in and tried to muster a smile. It looked more like she was about to burst into tears. “Mom, you are home.”
Moss wasn’t happy with Jessa, but he couldn’t bring himself to tell Joanna the whole ugly story. He didn’t want to break her heart. Ella was on the same page. Joanna was still recovering, and she really didn’t need any extra drama right now.
Ella greeted her with a gentle, “Ms. Johnson.”
Joanna glanced at Moss, frowning. “I just saw Louise leaving. Why did she go?”
Ella smirked a little. “Mr. Wade asked her to leave.”
Joanna stared, not quite believing it. “Seriously? You made her leave? For years you’ve let her stay here. I thought I’d get kicked out before she ever would.”
“It’s true,” Ella said. “Mr. Wade finally realized his mistake. He knows how much it bothered you, so he told her to move out. Isn’t that right, Mr. Wade?”
Ella reached over and nudged Moss closer to Joanna. The two of them were so stubborn, both too proud to admit their love.
Moss looked at Joanna, his voice steady. “Yes, I asked Louise to move out. I never thought about how you felt before, but from now on, I’ll change. I’m keeping my distance from her.”
Joanna looked at him, still suspicious. “You’re saying this now, but I don’t want t osee her call you in the middle of the night and make you run over to her place.”
“I won’t,” Moss promised. “But what about you?”
Joanna blinked. “Me? What about me?”
Moss pressed his lips together, looking a little annoyed. “That assistant of yours. The male secretary. And all those men you keep around you.”
Joanna rolled her eyes. “Don’t be ridiculous. They work for me. Nothing is going on.”
