Joanna couldn’t help but laugh. She was honestly so fond of Ella’s quick wit and openness.
“Ella, I came back home today to see my daughter, Jessa. Since we’ve run into each other, why don’t you join us for dinner?”
Wait, was Joanna really inviting Ella to dinner? Wasn’t this supposed to be a mother-daughter reunion?
“No way!” Jessa blurted out.
“Yes!” Ella answered at the exact same time.
Jessa shot her a look. “Ella, you’re unbelievable. You already came to my house last time, and now you want to crash our dinner too. Did you even think to ask if I want you there?”
Ella just enjoyed seeing Jessa get riled up, especially when she couldn’t do anything about it. “Ms. Wade, last time I visited your family it was because Mr. Wade invited me. And tonight, I’m here because Ms. Johnson asked me. Why should I check with you? Are you questioning your own parents’ choices?”
Jessa was fuming, grinding her teeth so hard it looked painful.
That’s when Joanna stepped in. “Alright, Jessa, I invited Ella. Let’s drop this.”
With Joanna making the call, Jessa couldn’t say anything else. “Fine, whatever you say, Mom.”
All four of them headed to the restaurant’s VIP suite. Ella picked a seat off to the side, staying quiet and focusing on her food, while listening in on all the drama.
Joanna turned to Jessa. “Jessa, what are you doing for work these days?”
“Mom, I’m a ballet dancer,” Jessa replied, “but I don’t want to dance anymore. I want to join Johnson Group. Is that okay?”
Ella gave a little smirk. Jessa sure was in a hurry to get in at Johnson Group.
“You want to work at Johnson Group?” Joanna asked.
“Yeah. Mom, you’re the CEO. I’ve heard all about how you’re a total boss in the business world. I want to learn from you and be strong and independent, just like you,” Jessa said, turning on the charm.
