Joanna stood frozen, unable to move.
Moss pulled his arm away from Jessa and shot her a sharp look. “Jessa, what are you doing?”
Jessa blinked, clearly caught off guard. “Dad, why are you yelling at me?”
Moss glanced over at Joanna. “Do you even know who she is?”
“She’s just some woman who hangs around rich men…”
“Enough.” Moss cut her off, his tone cold.
Jessa shrank back, startled. “Dad, what’s going on? Why are you so angry?”
Moss’s voice was firm. “Jessa, that’s your mother. Her name is Joanna.”
Those words hit Jessa like a bolt of lightning. She sucked in a breath. “Wait, what? She’s… my mom?”
She stared at Joanna, eyes wide with disbelief. Joanna stared back, just as shocked. No one had expected a reunion like this.
Moss looked at Joanna and said quietly, “She’s our daughter, Jessa.”
Jessa hurried over to Joanna, guilt written all over her face. “Mom, I’m so sorry. I didn’t recognize you. I’m Jessa, your daughter.”
Joanna’s disappointment was clear in her eyes.
Ella couldn’t help but smile a little. “Ms. Wade, calling her Mom now? That’s not what you were saying a minute ago. You really thought your own mom was just some rich guy’s mistress.”
