Lola sat quietly in her chair, waiting for her mom. She twirled a lollipop in her little hand, kicking her feet as she looked around.

Out of nowhere, two men in black appeared. One clamped his hand over Lola’s mouth, the other scooped her up like she weighed nothing at all.

Her eyes went huge with fear. She wanted to scream, to shout for her mom, but all she could do was make muffled noises behind the man’s hand.

Her lollipop slipped from her fingers and hit the floor with a soft clatter.

The men carried her away.

Meanwhile, Ella was on the phone. “Wyatt, what’s going on?”

“I’m headed to the airport, but someone rear-ended me. Just a little accident, but I’ll be late,” Wyatt said, trying to sound calm.

Ella let out a breath she didn’t realize she’d been holding. Just a fender bender. She’d been scared it was something worse.

“As long as you’re okay. I’ll call and have the flight delayed. Just come when you can.”

“Thanks, Ella. See you soon.”

They hung up. Ella turned, ready to tell Lola about Wyatt, but the words caught in her throat. Lola’s seat was empty.

Ella’s heart jumped into her mouth. “Lola? Lola!” She called her daughter’s name, searching the busy airport, but Lola was gone.

Panic set in. Where had she gone?

Then Ella spotted the lollipop on the floor. She picked it up, her hands shaking. It was Lola’s. Something was very wrong.

Outside, the men in black carried Lola toward a black van parked at the curb. They tried to shove her inside.

But Lola was sharp. She twisted and bit down hard on the man’s hand.
