He had met Ella years ago.
Jessa stared at her in disbelief, her voice rising. “No, this can’t be true. Ella, you’re messing with me, right?”
Ella glanced at her and gave a half-smile. “Ms. Wade, you’re the daughter of the richest man around. Maybe you should pay a little more attention to your manners right now. Look at yourself. Don’t you think you’re acting a bit petty and dramatic?”
Jessa went stiff.
All eyes turned to her as people started whispering under their breath. “Do you think Ms. Wade has some beef with Isabella? She looks like she just can’t stand to see anyone else in the spotlight.”
“Ms. Wade was born lucky, but Isabella’s the real deal. She’s got her own aura, like she was born to shine. Ms. Wade just doesn’t measure up.”
“Not only is she less talented, she isn’t as beautiful either. The difference is obvious. I get why Ms. Wade is losing it. She must be jealous.”
“She really shouldn’t act like this. She needs to be more gracious, or everyone will just see her as petty. She’s representing the Wade family now. She can’t embarrass them like this.”
Jessa’s face drained of color as everyone pointed and gossiped about her.
At that moment, Sarah snapped, her voice shaking with anger. “Ella, if you’re Isabella, why didn’t you just say so earlier? You just wanted to make us look bad, didn’t you? You’re awful.”
Ella rolled her eyes. “You set yourselves up for this. If I didn’t get back at you, wouldn’t you be disappointed? And Sarah, you weren’t even invited to the Emerald Banquet, were you? You just tagged along with Jessa.”
Sarah froze, caught. She really had sneaked in with Jessa.
The event organizer stepped forward. “Miss Sarah, our Emerald Banquet is for invited guests only. Please leave now.”
Just like that, Sarah was being kicked out.
She never thought Ella would stay and she’d be the one shown the door.
As she looked around, she spotted the rich guy who added her on social media earlier. He was watching her now, giving her a once-over with a look of open disdain.
The same guy who seemed interested before was now judging her.
