Jessa turned to the event organizer, her eyes sharp. “Excuse me, is the Emerald Banquet only for those on the Forbes rich list?”
The organizer nodded. “That’s right.”
“So if someone isn’t on the list, would that mean they snuck in?”
The organizer sounded certain. “Everyone here tonight is on the Forbes list. If anyone slipped in, we’d ask them to leave immediately.”
Sarah flashed a satisfied smile. “Exactly. This event is for people who actually matter. If someone doesn’t belong, they drag us all down. They should be kicked out right away.”
Jessa’s lips curled into a sly smile. “Well, there’s someone here tonight who doesn’t belong.”
“Who is it?”
Jessa pointed straight at Ella. “Her. Ella.”
All eyes turned to Ella. She just lifted an eyebrow and gave a small, amused smile, not bothered at all.
Jessa had made enough noise that everyone at the party had started to gather, eager to see what was happening.
This was exactly what Jessa and Sarah wanted. They wanted to embarrass Ella in front of all these powerful people, force her out, and have a story to laugh about for years.
Someone in the crowd spoke up. “Ms. Wade, are you saying Ms. Irvine snuck in?”
“It’s true. I don’t see Ella Irvine’s name on the Forbes list.”
