The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 473

“Harrell, why weren’t you picking up your phone?”

Adela sounded polite, but there was no mistaking the demand in her voice.

Harrell answered without any rush, “I just finished an examination and had to clean up the room. Didn’t hear my phone.”

“I’ll believe you this one time. Is Catherine having a boy?”

She didn’t waste time and went right to the point.

Harrell took a seat at his desk. “Catherine is carrying just one baby, but she’s already pretty far along. It actually gets harder to see these things late in pregnancy compared to the earlier months.”

“So you’re saying you’re not sure?” Adela shot back, clearly annoyed.

“Yeah. The baby’s legs were crossed, so I couldn’t see anything,” Harrell replied, matter-of-fact.

Adela snorted. “Honestly, Harrell, you’re almost too ethical. Feels kind of like you’re doing this on purpose. You know, sometimes the more you care about something, the more likely you are to lose it. Is that really what you want?”

Harrell fell silent.

Adela let out a dry laugh. “Fine, checking the gender this late isn’t as easy as four or five months, but it’s not impossible either.”

“If you don’t believe me, there’s nothing I can do. Find someone else if you want. I care about my reputation, but I’m not about to lie. If Catherine’s baby comes out different from what I tell you, I doubt you’d let me live it down.”

His stubbornness actually made him sound more believable. No matter how this played out, he trusted that Lance would step in if things got ugly.

“Alright, I’ll wait, but from now on, every time Catherine comes in for a check-up, your job is to find out the gender. I want you to check thoroughly.”

Adela tossed the problem right back at him. She needed to know the gender before the baby was born.

As soon as she hung up, she threw her phone on the sofa, her face clouded with frustration. Geoffrey was lounging in the living room, cigarette in hand, letting the smoke drift everywhere and adding to the suffocating mood.
