The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 465

Jasper’s cries kept spilling out from the car, no matter how hard Alexa tried to soothe him.

Lorinda had no choice but to climb back in, leaving Catherine to quickly flag down a taxi and head for the Lee family’s home.

It was almost as if Adela had been waiting for her. When Catherine rang the doorbell at the gate, the housekeeper opened the door and asked right away, “Are you Catherine?”

“I am,” Catherine replied. “Is Adela home?”

“She’s in the tea room. Let me show you.”

The housekeeper handed her a pair of slippers, and Catherine slipped them on, clutching her purse as she followed the hallway through the spacious living room and down to the tea room at the very end.

Adela sat perfectly straight at the tea table, a small pot bubbling softly on a burner, filling the air with the comforting smell of tea.

“Catherine, what brings you here?” Adela stood up, reaching out like she wanted to take Catherine’s hand.

Catherine stepped to the side, her face calm and distant.

“You know why I’m here, Adela.”

Adela’s hand hovered awkwardly in the air before she pulled it back.

“I do. I just didn’t expect you so soon. Please, have a seat.”

Catherine stood her ground, not moving. “I’d rather you just say what you have to say.”

A flicker of disappointment crossed Adela’s face. She sank back into her seat, poured some tea, and pushed the cup toward Catherine.

“To be honest, I once had a daughter.”

Adela watched Catherine carefully, but Catherine’s expression didn’t change at all. She wasn’t shocked, not even a little.
