The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 491

Lance frowned, his voice icy. “You must be bored if you’ve got time to stand around. Go tidy up these files.”

Aaron felt a chill down his back. He didn’t argue, just hurried back to Lance’s side.

“Which files do you want me to organize?” he asked.

Lance handed him a stack of files that were already perfectly in order. He didn’t bother explaining what needed to be done, so Aaron just pretended to sort through them, flipping pages and rearranging papers that didn’t need rearranging.

“What’s going on with Cabinda?” Lance asked.

“The news has been covered up,” Aaron said. “Sarah waited outside the James family’s house for a whole day and night. She wants to see Catherine.”

Aaron hesitated, confused. “Why aren’t they coming to you? Why do they want Catherine?”

Lance’s lips parted, about to reply, but just then the baby in the stroller made a quiet noise.

Catherine leaned over, trying to catch a glimpse, but all she could see was the baby kicking and waving, just out of reach.

“Take these files to Harrell’s room. I’ll look at them there in a bit,” Lance said as he stood up and walked over to the stroller.

He started rocking it gently, copying the way the nanny did.

“Is he hungry?” he asked.

“I’m not sure,” Catherine said. “The nanny should be back soon. You can just give him to me and go take care of your work.”

“The nanny said after a C-section, it’s best not to hold the baby for at least a month.”

Lance bent over, carefully slipping one large hand under the baby’s bottom, but when he tried to lift the baby’s head, he fumbled, clearly unsure what to do.

For a man who could handle million-dollar deals without breaking a sweat, this tiny six-pound baby had him totally at a loss.

Aaron watched for a second, then quietly left the room with the files.

As the hospital room door swung shut, he couldn’t help stealing one last glance at the odd little family inside.

Ex-husband, ex-boss—not even really a friend.

He knew Catherine was cornered, with no say in what happened next. She just had to go along with it.
