The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 466

“Most girls react the same way you did. They feel uncomfortable. Some just take her money and disappear. When I warned you before, it was partly because I didn’t want her behavior to ruin our partnership, and partly because I was afraid you might take the money and run. I hope you understand.”

“And please, try to see things from a mother’s perspective. Any mom who loses her child would be completely heartbroken. I just hope you won’t push away her kindness, alright?”

A child who’s lost their mom is never the same as one who grows up in a whole family. And a mother who’s lost her child is different from any other mom.

Catherine could feel her heart softening. She was moved, even if she couldn’t explain why. But no matter how much she sympathized with their story, something inside her still resisted Adela’s approach.

“Geoffrey, if what you’re saying is true, I’m really sorry for what happened. If Adela needs help in any other way, just let me know. I’ll do what I can. But I can’t let her kindness mess up my life. I hope you get where I’m coming from.”

Geoffrey’s face darkened for a moment, but then his expression softened again.

“It’s fine. This whole thing is awkward, I know. I won’t keep you. Go on.”

Catherine nodded and turned to leave.

She’d barely stepped outside the Lee family’s house when Adela hurried after her, carrying a plate of fruit.

“Catherine, have some fruit. There are cherries— I thought you’d like them…”

Catherine didn’t even look back. “No, thanks.” But Adela kept chasing after her, determined.

Her taxi was gone, and it was almost impossible to get another ride in this neighborhood.

Catherine was getting anxious when she suddenly spotted a Cullinan parked by the curb. The window was rolled halfway down, and she saw Lance’s sharp profile inside.

He noticed her, unlocked the car, and said, “Get in.”

“Alright.” She hesitated just a second, then quickly opened the back door and got in.

Before Lance could drive off, Adela caught up to the car.
