Hearing Glenn on the other end, Flora froze. The speech she had prepared was stuck in her throat.

Flora forced a light laugh. “Oh, it’s nothing. I just wanted to chat. If she’s busy, never mind.”

Glenn had already guessed the reason for her call.

“If you’re upset about the similarities between the Fawkes Enterprises and UME technology, you can come to me directly,” he said. “There’s no need to take your anger out on an innocent person.”

Flora knew perfectly well that the “innocent person” he was referring to was Evangeline.

Her temper flared.

“How is Evangeline innocent?”

“Glenn, I know you two are close, but there are some things you can’t cover up. If you protect her, she’ll just take advantage of it.”
