“Claudia,” Gideon said, “I’ll show you that you don’t have to choose between your career and love. The right person will be part of your future, not an obstacle to it.”
He was about to say more when his phone rang, cutting him off.
Claudia watched the deep crease form between Gideon's eyebrows as he ended the call.
“Gideon, if you have something to do, you should go,” she said. “My brother is coming to get me soon, so I’ll just wait for him.”
Gideon took off his jacket and draped it over her shoulders, giving her a few words of caution before quickly getting into his car.
Claudia stood there, stunned, her heart pounding in her chest.
In two lifetimes, this was the first time a man had ever confessed his feelings for her.
And yet, she had backed away.
After Gideon’s car disappeared, Ann, who had been hiding nearby, slowly emerged.
So, the woman’s name was Claudia.
She had been too far away to hear their entire conversation, but she was certain of one thing: this woman and Gideon were in a relationship.
They had been arguing so fiercely, and in the end, Gideon had left her on the side of the road. It seemed their relationship was in trouble.
Ann made a bold guess: the woman had probably tried to pressure him for a commitment and he'd refused, causing them to fall out.
Ann cleared her throat and walked confidently up to Claudia.
“Hello, Dr. Watkins,” Ann said, introducing herself. “I’m Gideon’s sister. How about we be friends?”
Claudia frowned as Ann offered her a bottle of water.
Friends with her? What a joke.
Noticing Claudia’s wary expression, Ann unscrewed the cap, took a small sip, and then looked Claudia up and down with a proud gaze.
Claudia’s patience was wearing thin. She turned to leave, but Ann took two steps forward and blocked her path.
