After York left, Claudia collapsed onto the desk, completely drained.
He hadn't pushed her any further.
It wasn't because he felt sorry for her or was considering her feelings.
He was protecting Ann, protecting his own reputation, and protecting the interests of the Ferguson family.
After all, in a public place like a hospital, if she had a breakdown and word got out that he was cheating and Ann was a patient here, he would be the one to suffer the most.
Claudia took a long time to compose herself before her emotions finally settled.
During that time, York had briefly returned to drop off some lunch for her before leaving again.
Once he was gone, she threw the meal straight into the trash.
At five-thirty, Claudia clocked out for the day.
Old Mr. Moore didn't have a night shift, and she worked a three-on, two-off schedule. Claudia planned to visit her parents on her day off tomorrow.
"Dr. Watkins, could I have a few minutes of your time?"
In the lobby of the hospital's main building, Ann stopped Claudia and her colleague.
She didn't use 'Mrs. Ferguson' in front of the colleague, opting for the more professional 'Dr. Watkins' instead.
Claudia had no desire for any private conversation with Ann.
She stopped, keeping her female colleague by her side. "Miss James, if you have something to say, please say it."
Seeing this, Ann apologized to Claudia right there in front of her colleague.
"I just found out that you have tomorrow off, Dr. Watkins, so I hurried over to apologize," she said.
Claudia's steady gaze scanned Ann from head to toe.
Ann was clearly a dancer; she had the height and poise, though her features weren't classically perfect.
