Claudia was triggered.
She scrambled to her knees, gave York a hard shove, and her voice rose sharply. "On what grounds are you questioning me, York? As my husband, or as her lover?"
His brow furrowed. "Claudia, I warned you not to see her."
A tightness seized her chest. "I'm not that petty."
"Do you have any idea what almost happened to her because of you?"
Claudia laughed bitterly.
All she'd done was run into her at the hospital and say hello.
She collapsed back onto the bed, feeling as if all her strength had been drained away. "So, you dropped everything at work and flew back overnight because you were worried something would happen to Ann?"
York got up, a flicker of irritation on his face.
He stood over her, his gaze intense. "Claudia, I know exactly what you're like. Ann's health isn't good. She can't handle stress, and she has a child to look after. I don't want anything like this happening again."
Losing control, Claudia grabbed a pillow and hurled it at him.
She climbed onto the bed, screaming, "You're a bastard, York!"
He bent down and picked up the pillow.
She snatched a book from the nightstand and threw it at him. "You're the one who cheated on me, who betrayed me! How can you be so concerned about her right in front of me? How can you say such cruel things to my face?!"
York stood calmly by the bed, easily dodging the objects she threw.
When she reached for the laptop, he stepped forward and stopped her. "Are you done?"
As he took the laptop from her, her composure shattered completely.
She began to wail, thrashing wildly, a hysterical storm of grief and anger. "Go on, protect them twenty-four-seven! Otherwise, I'll hit her every single time I see her!"
She sobbed uncontrollably. "My family is already bankrupt! I've got nothing to lose! I'll take you all down with me!"
"York, I'm filing for divorce!"
"I'll make sure everyone knows you betrayed our marriage, that you had an affair!"
