Chapter 646
“I could do it,” Lydia replied before she had time to think it through.
“Then there’s no problem.” His tone was far too casual.
And somehow, that was exactly what unsettled her.
“Cale,” she said, her voice softer now as she looked at him, “you’re really impossible.”
“Maybe.”
“This is a public place.”
“No one’s paying attention to us.”
Lydia let out a long breath, trying to steady herself. “That’s not the point.”
“Then what is?”
She didn’t answer right away.
Because it wasn’t just the situation.
It was the feeling. The way he said it. The way he didn’t force her—yet somehow still made her feel like she didn’t entirely have
a choice.
“Forget it,” Lydia murmured at last, trying to move on.
But Cale didn’t let it go that easily.
“You can take it off anytime.”
Lydia shot him a sharp look. “I’m not putting it on in the first place.”
Cale gave a small nod. “That’s your decision.”
After that, he said nothing more. He simply leaned back, sipping his wine, looking completely at ease. The night breeze brushed against his face, stirring his hair slightly-as if Lydia’s refusal had already been anticipated.
She would be lying if she said she wasn’t affected.
Especially with the way Cale remained calm, yet his gaze kept flickering toward her from the corner of his eye. As if he already knew she might give in at any moment.
Lydia bit her lower lip softly. Her heartbeat quickened-faster than it should have been.
Not out of fear.
Not because she felt forced.
But because…she felt challenged. And she hated that. Cale always knew exactly how to provoke a reaction from her without seeming to try.
“If I’m uncomfortable… can I take it off?” Lydia asked quietly, her voice almost a whisper.
Her fingers tightened around the hem of her dress.
“Of course,” Cale answered casually. “Nothing’s stopping you.”
Lydia looked at him for a long moment-searching, trying to find some opening, something she could hold on to to refuse completely.

But instead…she found the opposite.
Calm. Confidence. And something far more dangerous burning quietly in Cale’s eyes.
It made Lydia realize-she had been caught from the very beginning.
She let out a long breath, then slowly rose to her feet. Her hand reached for her bag again, this time gripping it a little tighter.
“You really are…” She shook her head, leaving the sentence unfinished.
“I know,” Cale replied simply.
Lydia took a step away, but before she could fully leave, she paused. She glanced back at him one more time-and for a fleeting second, something flickered in her eyes. Not anger. Not entirely irritated.
Something sharper. More dangerous.
“You’re insufferable,” she murmured.
Cale only leaned back, his gaze following every step as she walked away.
“Don’t take too long,” he said lightly.
Lydia didn’t answer.
But her steps-no longer hesitated.
The moment she disappeared, Cale allowed himself a satisfied smile. He drained the rest of his wine, his thoughts already drifting to everything he planned to do with Lydia later that night.
Unfortunately, the moment didn’t last.
His phone rang.
Cale’s expression shifted the instant he saw the name on the screen.
Liu.
He answered without hesitation. “Yes.”
“Sir,” the voice on the other end came quickly. “I’ve found Miss Naomi’s location.”
Cale straightened. “Where?”
“A rundown apartment. About thirty minutes from here.”
Cale rose from his seat, stepping away from the table. “Go on.”
“She’s working as a maid in Don Falcon’s residence.”
Cale’s jaw tightened. “Her condition?”
“Safe… but not entirely,” Liu replied carefully, “She’s been subjected to inappropriate treatment from Falcon’s men. It hasn’t escalated further, but it’s still harassment.”
Silence followed-not empty, but restrained, as if something was being held back
“I understand.”
“I’ve also obtained her daily schedule,” Liu continued. “If you want to meet her, we can arrange it.”
Cale didn’t respond immediately. His gaze remained fixed ahead, but his mind was already far from there. “Send me all the details.”
