My ex husband wants me back (Daven and Althea) novel Chapter 653

Chapter 653

Naomi nodded again without hesitation. “Ah, I should get back to work.” She picked up a few cleaning tools, moving quickly- until-

“Ouch!” Naomi winced, instinctively grabbing her wrist.

A dark bruise was visible there.

“I should go,” she added quickly.

“Are you okay?” Lydia asked, startled by what she had just seen.

The girl… was hurt.

Naomi parted her lips, about to answer-but another set of footsteps approached. A woman strode in briskly, her expression shifting the instant she saw Naomi.

“What are you doing here?”

Naomi immediately lowered her head. “I’m cleaning, ma’am—”

“Cleaning?” the woman cut in sharply. “Then why are you just standing there?”

“I was just-”

“Don’t argue!”

Her voice cracked through the air, sharp and loud, tightening the atmosphere in an instant. She looked at Naomi with open disdain; irritation etched clearly across her face.

“Do you have any idea how much time you’re wasting just standing there like that?”

Lydia frowned, confusion flickering into annoyance. What kind of person-

“I’m not arguing,” Naomi replied softly, trying to stay composed. “I’ve been cleaning the corridor-”

But that only seemed to irritate the woman further. Without warning, she grabbed the bucket beside Naomi and flung its

contents at her.

Water splashed across Naomi’s clothes, soaking her instantly.

Lydia froze.

Not just out of shock-but because, for a split second, she couldn’t believe someone could be treated like that… right in front of her.

“Now clean it properly!” the woman snapped. “Or don’t bother coming back tomorrow!”

Naomi bowed her head even lower, “Yes, Ms. Milly.”

“That’s enough,” Lydia cut in, her voice turning cold.

The woman turned sharply toward her. “And who are you?”

“Someone who knows how to treat people properly.”

The woman scoffed. “This is none of your business.” She shot Naomi another glare. “Clean it up! Useless intern!”

“It is my business now,” Lydia replied without hesitation.

Naomi quickly shook her head. “It’s okay,” she said softly, glancing at Lydia with quiet urgency. “I’m used to this. Please. you

should go. You need to-”

“You’re used to being treated like this?” Lydia interrupted, her gaze locking onto Naomi, something unreadable flickering in her eyes.

Naomi gave a small smile-thin, strained. “This isn’t new for me, miss. So… please, just go. I need to finish this.”

“Hurry up, idiot!” the woman barked again. “If I come back in thirty minutes and this is still a mess, you’re done!”

With a final scoff, she turned and walked away without another word.

Silence fell.

Naomi stood there, motionless, her clothes still damp, her head lowered as she stared at the dirty water pooling on the floor, the same floor she had just cleaned moments ago.

Milly had gone too far.

But Naomi couldn’t afford to fight back.

She needed this job.

Lydia exhaled slowly, then reached for a cloth nearby. “I’ll help.’

“No.” Naomi shook her head immediately. “You don’t have to-”

“I’m not asking for permission.”

Naomi hesitated, uncertainty flashing across her face. “If someone sees

“Just leave it.”

Lydia had already crouched down, helping clean the water on the floor-even though it was clearly not something she was used

to doing.

Naomi stayed still for a few seconds, then finally moved as well, as if she couldn’t let Lydia do it alone for too long. “Why are you doing this?” she asked softly.

Lydia didn’t answer right away. The puddle had already started to shrink. It was a little tiring, but somehow… it made her feel lighter. “Maybe because I don’t like seeing things like that,” she murmured.

Naomi gave a small smile, “You… seem different.” She hesitated for a moment. “We haven’t properly introduced ourselves yet. May I know your name?”

Lydia returned with a faint smile and extended her hand. “Of course. I’m Lydia Miller.”

Naomi stared at Lydia’s hand for a brief moment at the neat nails, the elegance-before quickly grabbing a clean cloth to wipe her own hands, as if she didn’t want Lydia to hesitate to shake them. “I’m… Naomi Jessica.”

Lydia held her gaze on their joined hands for a moment longer.

Naomi Jessica?

Not Chen Naomi?

So… she really didn’t know? About her own past?

“I’m really glad to meet you, Miss Lydia,” Naomi said with a soft smile.

Lydia nodded slightly. “Me too.” She helped tidy up the cleaning tools they had used. “Have you been working here long?”

If Cale wouldn’t tell her anything about Naomi… then she would find out herself.

And perhaps just perhaps-this was fate handing her the opportunity.

After all, she ran into Naomi here. Even after suspecting Cale might meet her today… it seemed, for once-

he had been telling the truth.

Cale hadn’t met Naomi.

“No,” Naomi replied, smiling faintly. “I’ve only been here for about a month. The pay is pretty good, even if the work is a bit tough. I think it’s fair.” She let out a small laugh, then added, “I should get back to work. It was really nice meeting you, Miss Lydia. And… thank you for helping me.”

“Can we meet again?”

Naomi hadn’t even had the chance to answer when Lydia’s phone vibrated in her pocket-persistently enough that she couldn’t ignore it.
