Matthew did not let the words escape his lips. They stayed locked inside his thoughts. Even on this faraway island called Blackshore, I ended up meeting one of my own fans.
It felt like destiny. A hand of fate.
"So, tell me, is that Matthew really as incredible as you make him sound? How does he stack up against me?"
Matthew asked with keen interest.
"Sir, you may have saved me just now, but I must be honest. You cannot compare to my idol, Matthew."
Matthew's body went still.
He could not believe it. How could the man he was now fall short against the image of himself known back home? Had his skill in medicine already slipped away?
"My idol is far more striking than you. Even when he was young, his knowledge of medicine had already reached the highest level.
"He is also gifted in crafting rare medicines. One pill of his could sweep away illness, bring back strength, and lengthen a person's years.
"Even though he once married into another family, what he later accomplished was priceless. He loved his wife with all his heart, and he stayed faithful to her through everything."
Matthew's lips curved with the faintest smile. The man's words proved he knew his story well. There was no doubt he was a true fan.
Still, a sharp sting of envy cut through him. He was Matthew himself, yet the life he lived in this moment was treated as lesser.
"How did you travel from Cathay all the way here and end up in the hands of the Medusa Gang?"
Matthew cut short Herbert's long praises of him. Herbert's eyes clouded over, and sorrow weighed down his face.
"Sir, I work in restoring old buildings. For the last few years, I traveled abroad, giving talks about the beauty of American architecture. On one of those trips, my ship sailed into a storm. I washed up on an island I had never seen before.
"After drifting for some time, I wandered into this strange land. I had no chance to settle before they caught me.
