I repeated numbly, “Go abroad?”
Horace nodded. “Yes. You can finish your studies, and I'll get treatment for my legs overseas. I actually have some business ventures abroad. We could buy a house and build a life there.”
My expression shifted slightly. “Horace, I thought I made it clear last time. We...”
Before I could finish, Horace cut me off. “Zephyra, don't get me wrong. I know you don't have feelings for me, but just because we can't be lovers doesn't mean we can't be friends, right?”
I could hear the sadness in his voice and quickly replied, “Of course not. We're friends. That will never change.”
I understood. Even though I didn't love him and couldn't give him false hope, I couldn't bring myself to cut him out of my life completely.
Not after he'd been so seriously injured for my sake. I couldn't be that cruel.
Horace said thoughtfully, “Zephyra, listen to me. The only way to get away from Steven is to leave the country. Abroad, he won't be able to bother you! And...”
He glanced at my stomach. “You don't have to worry about the baby. I'll help you take care of it.”
My pupils dilated slightly. “You know I'm pregnant?”
The moment the words left my mouth, I realized. Rachel had known for a while. She's in love with Horace, so of course she would have told him.
Horace nodded. “Yes, but don't worry. In my eyes, your baby is just your baby. It has nothing to do with Steven. He's a vicious, manipulative man. It would be better if the child never knew they had a father like him.”
I was taken aback. I didn't agree with his assessment of Steven.
