I still didn't say a word, and Horace's expression twisted.
"Steven hired someone to hit me. He tried to kill me, but he failed! He's the reason my leg is ruined!"
The mention of that reminded me of Mr. Lancaster Sr.'s accident. I was just about to ask Horace for details when suddenly, the door was kicked open with a loud bang.
Steven strode in, with Gordon close behind him.
Unlike last night, Steven was now in a dark suit, looking like he'd just rushed over from the office.
I was startled. "What are you doing here? Did you follow me?"
The hospital where Horace was staying was quite far from the city; people didn't usually come out here unless it was important.
Steven grabbed my hand, pulling me to my feet from the bedside without warning. "You have the nerve to ask me that? If I'd been a minute later, you'd be getting on a plane with him, wouldn't you?"
What was he even talking about? I really didn't understand why Steven was so convinced I would run off with Horace.
I frowned in annoyance. "What nonsense are you spouting? I came to see Horace to discuss something important."
Steven glanced at me, then shot a look at Horace.
"What's so important it has to be discussed behind closed doors? Zephyra, haven't I told you not to see Horace!"
It seemed I'd been too nice to Steven lately, making him think he could meddle in my affairs again.
My brows furrowed. "Steven, you're crossing a line. My business is none of your concern."
