A shadow fell over Steven's eyes. "I'm going to ask him just how well he knows me!"
His tone was so chilling it sent a shiver down my spine.
I knew Steven was genuinely angry. Even though I was carrying his child, if Ryan really pushed his buttons, there was no guarantee Steven wouldn't get physical.
Then Uncle Julian would have to worry, and I'd be caught in the middle with no peace.
I held onto Steven's arm tightly. "Ryan's just talking nonsense, don't take it to heart!"
That's what I said out loud, but inwardly I was thinking, *Ryan isn't wrong. He is a scumbag!*
Steven stared at me, suppressing his anger. "Nonsense? He might as well have been pointing a finger in my face! I'll let it go with Uncle Julian; he's an elder, so I can't say much. But Ryan is your brother, and as his brother-in-law, it's my duty to teach him a lesson!"
Brother-in-law?
Steven really knew how to flatter himself. How many times did I have to mention our divorce before he'd get it?
I hardened my expression. "Ryan's words were harsh, but he was just looking out for me. If you have a problem, take it up with me. Leave Ryan out of it!"
Hearing this, Steven's face paled slightly. "Zephyra, can't you be a little more impartial? Ryan is the one making things up and maliciously slandering me!"
"Every time something like this happens, you always take someone else's side. It was like that with Horace, with Rachel, and now with Ryan. When will you ever be on my side?!"
Maybe it was my imagination, but I thought I detected a hint of a whine in Steven's tone.
