I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 776

A layer of ice seemed to form over Steven’s eyes. With a sudden burst of force, the fork in his hand snapped with a sharp crack, and he slammed the broken pieces onto the table.

He quickly pulled out his phone, his fingers flying across the screen as he dialed a number.

On the other end, Thomas’s voice was a mix of surprise and sycophantic eagerness.

“To what do I owe the pleasure?”

Steven’s gaze swept coldly over the dining table, his voice chillingly sharp. “Where is Verna?”

There was a noticeable two-second pause on the other end. “Her? I have no idea. She’s just on the cleaning staff. I’ve got a million things on my plate, I can’t keep track of her.”

Steven must have had the phone on speaker, because I could hear their entire conversation clearly.

Thomas must have sensed the edge in Steven’s voice and realized Verna had done something, because he was already scrambling to distance himself.

So much for his supposed affection. When his own interests were on the line, he was quick to save himself.

Steven, being the cutthroat businessman he was, had no patience for Thomas’s excuses.

He glanced at me, his gaze holding a glint of chilling resolve.

“Tell Verna to back the hell off. If this happens again, I’ll make sure she never speaks again!”

He paused, then added, “And I mean it.”

I was stunned.

From my interactions with Verna, I could sense she and Steven shared secrets—secrets that were very important to him.

I had assumed Steven would at least have some compassion for Verna, but now it seemed he was ready to cut her off completely.
