Verna stopped mid-sentence and suddenly burst into wild laughter.
Hearing that, my expression hardened. I stood up and stared at Verna. "Destined for what?"
The text messages Verna sent Steven before were strange, and the only thing I was sure of was that it was about something that would greatly affect him.
Verna curled her lip into a sneer. "I won't tell you. You just need to know that no one can fight the script. No matter how much Steven does for you, he can't change the ending. If he doesn't get back on the right track, his fate will be a miserable one."
I frowned slightly, suddenly remembering Verna's last text message, where she mentioned Steven had done something behind her back. I was also very curious about what that could be.
My gaze sharpened as I stared at her.
"Verna, if you came here just to spout this nonsense, then you can get lost. I'm not in the mood and I can't be bothered to listen to you."
With that, I turned to leave.
Hearing this, Verna immediately grew anxious and started banging on the iron gate again.
"Zephyra, you'd better wise up and follow the script! Otherwise, you'll meet a bad end, and you won't be able to protect your child either!"
My steps faltered, and fury instantly welled up inside me. Verna could say what she wanted about me, but I wouldn't tolerate her dragging my child into this.
I spun around, walked back until I was just a few feet from Verna, and stopped. "Verna, it seems I've been too lenient with you. You dare say that again, and I guarantee I'll do more than just ruin your hands—I'll ruin that mouth of yours too!"
