I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 767

“Oh!” Tess drew out the word. “Since you were just asking casually, then it doesn’t really matter if I tell you or not, right?”

She raised her eyebrows at me, clearly teasing.

“…”

I picked up my fork and started to eat without another word.

With Steven gone, I was actually glad for the peace and quiet. At least I wouldn't have him constantly nagging me to eat this or that.

For some reason, though, it felt like something was missing.

Tess served me a bowl of porridge. “Mr. Lancaster went to the office for a meeting. He said he’d be back this afternoon! If you miss him, Ma'am, you could always video call him!”

Tess’s voice had a natural sweetness to it, making her sound like a girl fresh out of high school.

I put down my fork, my expression flat. “He can stay away for a month, for all I care.”

I took a spoonful of the porridge, and it immediately tasted different—richer and sweeter than usual, and much more delicious.

“Tess, how did you make this porridge today? It’s amazing!”

Tess blinked her wide eyes at me. “You’d have to ask Mr. Lancaster about that, Ma’am. He’s the one who made it.”

“He probably felt bad about not being here for breakfast and was worried you wouldn't eat much, so he thought making porridge would encourage you to eat more.”

I was slightly taken aback. When I’d woken up around five, Steven must have gotten up shortly after. He had been staying up so late recently and still getting up so early—was he taking care of himself?
