Just as I said that, a servant brought out a dish of steamed fish. The aroma wafted towards me, and my stomach instantly churned. I bolted for the bathroom and wretched violently.
Steven’s face fell. He rushed over and gently rubbed my back as I heaved, tears streaming down my face. He pursed his lips, his eyes filled with pain for me. “I told you your stomach was sensitive, but you’re so stubborn. You can have what you want later, okay?”
I didn't know why I was suddenly so nauseous. I had been much better at the hospital, only feeling sick occasionally. I nodded weakly. “Okay.”
Wilma stood outside the door and asked with concern, “Ma’am, could you be pregnant?”
Steven answered for me. “Her stomach is just sensitive. Please make something light for her.”
Wilma quickly agreed.
He tried to pick me up, but I stopped him, afraid he would reopen his wounds. But a moment later, I was lifted effortlessly into his strong arms as he carried me steadily back to the bedroom.
After getting sick, I completely lost my appetite. Steven brought me some fragrant ribs and beef, but I didn't want to eat. He tried to feed me. “Mr. Taylor is coming tonight. If you don’t eat, I’m worried you won’t have the energy to get up and talk with him.”
“Mr. Taylor is arriving today?”
“Yes.”
I figured it was about time for him to be back in the country. Frowning, I forced myself to eat half a bowl of rice before I couldn't take another bite.
After eating, I felt drowsy and dizzy, with a slight headache. But I didn't dare tell Steven, or he'd call a doctor again, only for them to find nothing wrong.
Steven drew the curtains for me, and I went to sleep while he went to handle work.
His unexpected injury had caused a huge backlog of work. Key projects at the company were waiting for his approval and direction.
The others had nothing more to say. Steven’s style had changed recently. He was no longer as aggressive as before, often showing mercy to competitors. His sole focus was on making money and moving forward. He no longer crushed those who stood in his way but simply pushed them aside. Even with the Brooks family, he just made them pay back what they owed.
No one could figure out what he was planning.
Besides, if he asked the Brooks family to pay him back double, would they really do it? Wasn’t that a bit naive?
After the meeting, Gordon called Steven and sent him a file. After reading it, Steven’s eyebrows shot up, his dark eyes narrowing dangerously.
“That’s the entertainment company he founded? He poached a huge amount of resources from Leonard's company to partner with the Brooks family on a TV series?”
Gordon’s voice was grave. “Yes, Mr. Lancaster. And the company's registered address is in the same city as the overseas location the police tracked back then.”
“I suspect the one who hired the hitman to kill your grandfather… was really him—Horace.”
