I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 685

Even I couldn't help but stare at her, but for some reason, I felt no attraction—only a strange sense of aversion.

It was the first time I’d felt repulsed by someone since losing my memory. Was I the type of woman who was always sizing up the competition?

Lost in my thoughts, I didn't notice that Steven had seen her too. The gentle smile on his handsome, refined face instantly vanished, replaced by a harsh glare, his eyes as sharp as knives.

The beautiful, innocent-looking woman’s gaze first fell on Steven, then shifted to me, studying my face intently.

Her expression didn't seem like she was looking at a stranger. “Do we… know each other?”

Before she could answer, Steven’s arm wrapped around my waist again, pulling me tightly against him. His face was a cold, emotionless mask. “No,” he said, his voice flat. “Don’t just talk to anyone. Let’s go back.”

The woman glanced at him, a faint, almost imperceptible smile touching her lips as she extended a hand toward me.

“It's true, we haven’t met. I just saw how beautiful you are—absolutely stunning—and I wanted to introduce myself.”

“Hello, my name is Verna.”

I was surprised to be complimented by such a beautiful woman and was about to shake her hand when Steven grabbed mine. A storm I couldn't comprehend brewed in his cold eyes as he stared at Verna.

“She’s not someone you can get to know.”

Verna’s expression faltered, and she bit her lip, looking hurt. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to intrude.”

I was even more confused, my brow furrowed. As Steven led me away, I looked back just in time to see Gordon rushing over, his expression grave as he escorted Verna away.

My eyebrows shot up. I took a sip of my milk and asked quietly, “That woman just now… do we know her?”

Steven could be short-tempered with me, but he rarely got worked up over outsiders. He could be indifferent, condescending, or even ruthless, but he hardly ever got angry.

Yet he was clearly angered by that woman’s appearance.

Back in the room, Steven and I took our medication together, and after sitting for a while, I went to take a shower.

After I left, a thick shadow fell over Steven’s handsome features. He took his phone and went to the adjacent hospital room.

Gordon and Verna were sitting on the sofa.

Gordon gave Steven a slight nod. Before Gordon left, Steven asked him to get a new phone.

“Of course, Mr. Lancaster,” Gordon replied before leaving.

As the door closed, Steven’s cold eyes swept over to Verna. “Who told you to come here?”

Verna stood up, her long, dark hair falling over her shoulders. She looked at Steven, her expression serious as she answered his question with one of her own. “Mr. Lancaster, did you trade fates with Zephyra?”

“We’ve known each other for so long, and I’ve never seen you suffer like this. You’re covered in wounds, while Zephyra is completely unharmed. You're supposed to be untouchable, the one with all the luck. How could you possibly be the one who’s hurt more when you're with her?”
