I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 676

Rachel chimed in, adding from a safe distance, “From the looks of it, Steven is the one in real trouble. The news isn't releasing any details, which means the situation is probably worse than we think. You shouldn't be following him into danger. You should strike while the iron is hot and seize the advantage. You can't let him walk all over you for the rest of your life.”

Horace’s handsome features tightened, and he turned to look at Rachel. She froze for a second, then quickly explained, “I saw Verna when you were in the hospital after you collapsed from exhaustion. She’s the one who told me all this.”

Horace frowned, no longer mentioning his return trip. “You’re in contact with Verna?”

Rachel’s heart leaped into her throat. “No,” she denied.

He watched her quietly, as if sizing her up.

“Rachel, stay away from Verna. She’s not a good person.”

She bit her lip. “I know she was the other woman in Zephyra and Steven’s marriage. I’m not close with her. We just talked a little.”

Horace nodded, his expression maintaining its usual gentle elegance, but his eyes were sharp.

“Something Myron said last night has been bothering me. You drove Zephyra to the airport, so why was she the only one who got into trouble? Where were you at the time?”

“I didn’t ask last night because I trusted you. But now, I’m a little curious. Can you clear things up for me?”

Rachel’s heart pounded in her chest. Her fingers twisted together, her brow furrowed. As Horace pressed her again, she suddenly looked up at him, her eyes red.

“Are you accusing me? Do you think I would hurt Zephyra? You and she are my best friends. I would kill myself before I ever hurt her!”

“But Horace, I never wanted to hurt either of you. Never. Believe it or not.”

With that, she hurried away, raising a hand as if to wipe more tears.

Horace pressed his lips together, his mind in turmoil. Just then, his phone rang. When he saw the name on the screen, his frown deepened, and he stepped aside to take the call.

“Uncle Julian, it’s me.”

As the person on the other end spoke, Horace’s expression darkened. “You saw the news… Yes, Zephyra didn’t leave the country. The bridge in Ixia collapsed, and she was on the list of victims. But don’t worry, I found her. She’s physically fine, but she has amnesia… Steven found her before I did. He’s been lying to her, twisting her around his finger. She refuses to believe me, won’t even see me.”

“I’d like to bring you to Ixia. We can take Zephyra home, okay?”
