Steven’s fingers lifted my chin, his deep, dark eyes locking onto mine.
“Good. Don’t you think you owe me something?”
My heart hammered in my chest as my smile grew more strained.
I had come looking for a fight, and now the tables had turned completely.
“Owe you… yes, I suppose I do. You’re such a good person, you deserve a deeply devoted woman to love you and heal the wounds I caused.”
He guided me gently. “I don’t want any other woman. Besides, the one who caused the problem should be the one to solve it, don’t you think?”
I froze, my eyelashes fluttering wildly. “You… you still want me?”
“If I didn’t, why would I still be tangled up with you?” Steven’s thumb caressed my chin, his gaze darkening as he spoke slowly. “Divorced people can remarry. It’s not unheard of for broken things to be mended. If you feel you owe me, you should love me properly and be with me. Right?”
My mind reeled. “You… you want to remarry?”
We had a huge fight just today. This afternoon, he only said he wouldn't hold the past against me. I could tell his attitude toward me was softening, but he wasn’t the type to rush things. There was no sign he wanted to get back together so quickly.
But tonight, after just one encounter with Horace, he had jumped from reconciliation all the way to remarriage. Wasn’t he forcing this a bit? Just how threatened was he by Horace?
Steven stared at me, his eyes deep. “We’re going to remarry sooner or later. What’s the difference between now and then?”
My mind went blank, and the words tumbled out before I could stop them.
