I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 639

David said excitedly, “Then why bother with part-time work or baking? You have a gift for design! The color palettes you use… someone without real talent couldn’t come up with that. You should work with my cousin, Linda! She's the design director at Ixia, a publicly traded company. She's brilliant!”

“Actually, it’s a sad coincidence. A friend of hers named Zephyra just died, so she’s heartbroken and is heading home for a few days to recover. I’ll introduce you when she gets back. If you work under her, I guarantee you'll have a much better future than you would with baking!”

I was speechless.

David quickly composed himself, clasping his hands together. “Oops, my big mouth. Sorry, sorry. May the dead rest in peace.”

“But my suggestion is serious. Although your work isn’t quite at Zephyra’s level, and you’re a little behind me since I’m a professional, you definitely have a spark of talent. Why not give it a shot?”

I thought about it. His cousin was at Ixia, and Steven was planning to return to Ixia, so the city was perfect. I readily agreed.

David immediately contacted his cousin, then told me excitedly that she would be coming this weekend. He said I was lucky because her boss was coming too.

If it was a good fit, they might offer me a contract on the spot.

I was even happier. That meant I’d wait until the weekend to leave.

David then added, “My cousin says her boss is a playboy, rich and powerful, some precious grandson of the Taylor family. Your husband has a good air about him and doesn't look poor, but he's definitely not as rich as that guy. And you're good-looking, exactly the type those rich heirs go for. You have to resist the temptation. A mistress can never compare to a wife. Don't think about being a gold digger when you're so young, got it?”

I was at a loss for words again.

David meant well, but the way he said things made my head spin.

Compared to him, Steven's sarcasm and mood swings were child's play.

Suddenly remembering Steven, I grabbed the fruit and hurried upstairs, knocking on his door. “Steven, the debt collectors are here! Shouldn't you get out of here while you can?”

Even if someone from deep in the mountains had rescued her, it didn't make sense that they would have taken her back into the mountains. Something was definitely wrong.

Without a word, George turned the car around.

His eyes were filled with impatience, but he kept his tone even.

“Horace, Ms. Jones was planning to leave the country. She doesn't have you in her heart. You've already wasted six or seven days on her, canceling almost ten appearances, and you're about to waste even more. Don't you think it's not worth it?”

“Even if you find her this time, she won’t change her mind because of what you've done. A person like her… she seems agreeable and easy to handle, but she's actually very strong-willed and principled. How much more time are you going to waste on her?”

“As long as it’s for her, I'm willing. Besides…” Horace stared out the window at the receding landscape, his eyes sharp, his tone light yet certain. “This time, she will change her mind. As long as she's by my side.”

He had no interest in being the supporting villain anymore. He had said it before: in this life, he wanted fame, fortune, power, and the woman he loved—
