David’s gaze fell upon a bright, captivating smile. It was none other than his tenant.
He scoffed, “Who are you to her, and what do you want?”
…
When Gordon brought Steven his breakfast, he found him sitting expressionless at his desk, clearly in a foul mood.
His eyes flickered as he began to report on company matters.
“Your little show of force certainly rattled some cages. The shareholders have quieted down, and Mr. Thomas Lancaster seems to have backed off as well. For now, only Mr. James wishes to report on some overseas projects. Would you prefer a virtual meeting, or should we discuss it back at the office after we get your wife's medical report?”
Steven replied coolly, “I'll contact him later. Have you found Horace's whereabouts?”
“The day before your grandfather's accident, your wife did meet with Horace. They had a casual meal together at the Lopez family's home.”
Steven let out a cold laugh, his eyes filled with ridicule.
Gordon’s lips twitched. After all, before she left, his wife had unleashed hell on Mr. Lancaster, yet she was incredibly loving towards her own lover and best friend. It was hard for Mr. Lancaster not to feel bitter.
“The text message your wife sent to the Chairman was sent the following morning. She didn't meet with Horace that day, though we can't rule out a scheduled send.”
“The police said it was a hit-and-run orchestrated by foreign operatives. Horace has no influence overseas, and your wife respects the Chairman. Even if he wanted to use her to drive a wedge between you two, he likely wouldn't target your grandfather. Could our focus be wrong?”
Steven picked up his fork and began to eat, his expression cold. “I don’t believe in coincidences. Once a person becomes obsessed, they’ll stop at nothing. He has motive and opportunity. Keep the focus on him. Where is he now?”
Steven shot him a look. “Gordon, you talk too much.”
Gordon smiled. He had known Steven for many years; how could he not know what Mr. Lancaster was thinking?
He teased him slightly.
“Mr. Lancaster, you’re a genius in business, but when it comes to matters of the heart, you don't see things as clearly as I do. In the past, you refused to let go when you should have. Now that your wife is as sweet and innocent as a lamb, she needs someone by her side more than ever. And Horace is still circling like a vulture. If you let her go now, Horace will surely take good care of her.”
“It's only a matter of time before affection grows between them.”
“But can you really accept your wife falling for Horace, living happily ever after with him, having a bunch of kids and a lively home, while you continue to drown yourself in work, making cold hard cash, returning to an empty mansion, and living a lonely life forever?”
