Chapter 84 Harbor City Bound

Jade didn’t hesitate.

“I’ll be ready.”

She hung up and dragged her leaden limbs to the kitchen for a glass of hot water.

Today, Mr. Mickelsen would be delivering the lawyer’s letter and the incriminating photo to Hudson.

She had hoped to negotiate with him today, but now it would have to wait until her return from Harbor City.

After the water, Jade fought through the dizziness to begin packing.

Every movement was a struggle; her chest felt tight, and she was constantly out of breath.

By the time she finished, she checked the flight details Anthony had sent her.

She still had a few hours, and feeling truly awful, she decided to make a quick trip to the clinic.

The doctor checked her temperature-no fever, just a severe case of the flu.

He gave her some mild prescriptions, warning her that prenatal-safe meds weren’t as effective and to stick to bed rest and hydration.

Jade took the first dose the moment she got home.

As expected, it did little to help; by the afternoon, her head was still spinning.

When the time came, she took a taxi to the airport to meet the team.

She put on a surgical mask before stepping out of the car.

She looked drained and sickly, her illness impossible to hide completely.

Edward was counting on her, and he had talked her up to the other master restorers.

She refused to be the weak link in the team.

More than that, she couldn’t afford to miss this career-defining opportunity.

She had to seize this; she had to climb higher for her child’s sake!

At the departure terminal.

Jade located the group, and seeing her mask, the other restorers crowded around with

concern.

“I’m fine, just a little bug. I’m wearing the mask so I don’t pass it on to anyone else.”

After a few more well-wishes, the group dispersed to handle check-in.

Anthony approached and handed Jade a high-end thermos.

“It’s just warm water. The cup is clean. Drink up; it helps with the congestion.”

Jade took it and had a few sips.

“Thank you, Anthony.”

“Don’t mention it.” Anthony stared at her watery, almond eyes over the mask for a moment.

“If you feel worse, you have to tell me. Don’t try to be a hero.”

Jade felt a warmth in her chest and gave him a small, crinkled-eye smile.

“I will.”

At the Walter Group.

Hudson finally finished his mountain of work and prepared to deal with the Jade and Amara situation.

But before he could leave, Emily called him.

“Your grandfather is at the old estate. He wants to see you immediately.”

Hudson had no choice but to divert.

“I’m on my way.”

Ninety minutes later, at the Walter family estate.

Hudson walked in to find John Walter in a traditional mandarin suit, calmly drinking coffee.

“Grandpa.”

John glanced at him out of the corner of his eye.

“Sit down.”

Hudson took the seat opposite his grandfather, and the butler poured him a cup.

He took a slow, methodical sip.

The two men sat in silence for a long, heavy ten seconds.

John set his cup down and looked Hudson in the eye.

“Hudson, what is your endgame with Jade? She hasn’t called me, but I know she moved out. It seems she’s serious about this divorce.”
