Chapter 83 The Point of No Return

Hudson couldn’t listen anymore and bolted from his chair.

“Don’t worry, Amara. I’ll make sure you get the justice you deserve.”

He left the room, ordering a nurse to stay with Amara, and strode toward the garden with a heart full of rage.

As he reached the lawn, he was startled to see Jade still standing there, vibrating with cold.

Seeing her frozen, ashen face, half of Hudson’s anger evaporated instantly.

He stripped off his designer coat and draped it over her, his voice heavy with frustration.

“Jade, why do you have to be so d*mn stubborn?”

Jade didn’t want his hollow pity; she yankled the coat off and let it fall into the dirt.

“Am I allowed to leave now?”

Her face was as white as a sheet, her lips completely colorless. Looking at her, Hudson couldn’t bring himself to force an apology.

Jade saw his hesitation and sharpened her tone.

“I said, can I leave?!”

Hudson let out a weary sigh and signaled for Kevin.

“Kevin, take her back to her apartment.”

He would wait until tomorrow when she was calm to have a real talk about the apology.

Regardless, he wasn’t going to let this slide easily.

It was too serious; he had to force her to face Amara and realize the magnitude of her mistake.

“Don’t bother.”

Jade spat the words out and dragged her stiff, frozen body toward the exit.

She hailed a taxi at the back gate and collapsed into the seat.

At that moment, she finally broke; her entire body was a wreck of tremors and her voice was a ragged mess.

“Driver… please… turn up the heat. All the way.”

“You got it.”

As the warmth hit her, Jade felt like she was slowly being resuscitated.

Once her fingers regained feeling, she dialed her mother’s lawyer, Mr. Mickelsen.

“Mr. Mickelsen, is the divorce filing ready to go?”

“It is.”

“Fine. Send Hudson Walter the official notice. And include the photograph I gave you.”

She paused, her breath hitching before she spoke with a newfound, terrifying clarity.

“Tell him if he refuses to sign, I’ll burn his precious reputation to the ground.”

Back at her apartment, Jade took a scalding shower and drank some ginger tea before burying herself under the covers.

She felt like death; as a pregnant woman, she couldn’t take proper medication and could only pray the chill didn’t turn into a fever.

In the early hours of the morning, Jade slipped into a nightmare.

She was in a pitch-black, suffocating room.

She was on her knees, and Hudson was gripping her jaw, looming over her like a dark god.

“You think you’re worthy of carrying my child? Only Amara is allowed that honor. This thing has to go. Now.”

Jade begged him through a flood of tears.

“No, Hudson! This baby is all I have left! Please, I’m begging you, let me keep it!

“If you let me keep the baby, I’ll disappear forever. You’ll never have to see my face again!”

Hudson just laughed, cold and heartless. “You love me too much to stay away. I don’t believe a word.”

“I don’t love you anymore! I hate you! I don’t want anything to do with you!”

Jade clutched at his legs, her voice a shrill, desperate plea.

“Hudson, please! Just let me have

my

child…”

Hudson offered a sadistic smirk and, like a heartless butcher, reached out to take her baby by force.

“No!”

Jade let out a blood-curdling scream that shattered the silence.

“Stop it!”

Jade bolted upright in bed, gasping for air, the words still spilling from her lips.

“No… don’t hurt my baby…”

She was deathly pale, sweat soaking her hair, her heart hammering against her ribs with residual terror.

She clutched her stomach, the dream feeling more like a premonition. She had to keep the baby a secret from Hudson at all costs.

Jade sat in the dark for a long time before finally falling into a heavy, feverish sleep.

She woke around eight the next morning feeling like she’d been hit by a truck-congested, dizzy, and weak.

Bzz, bzz, bzz-

Her phone began to vibrate on the nightstand.

It was Anthony calling.

She rubbed her throbbing temples and answered the call.

“Anthony…”

Her voice was so raspy and broken it sounded alien to her own ears.

Anthony’s tone was immediate concern. “Jade? Are you sick?”

Jade cleared her throat, trying to force some strength into her voice.

“Just a minor cold. I’m fine, really.”

Since she insisted she was okay, Anthony got straight to the point.
