“Hudson, what are you trying to say? Do you suspect I deliberately didn’t correct the saleswoman? That I got myself slapped on purpose? If you really think that low of me, then Cortney and I should just move out. Even though Ronald had that accident and I’m a single mother raising a child alone, I still have my own pride and dignity!”
Seeing the light was still red, Hudson pulled out a tissue and handed it to her.
“Amara, don’t think like that. I never meant it that way. Letting you and Cortney stay with me, and spending money on you-it’s all my choice. You don’t need to care about what others think.”
Hudson knew Amara well. As the only daughter of the Hoyt family, she had grown up cherished and spoiled by everyone.
Even though both the Faith family and the Hoyt family had taken a significant hit following Ronald’s death, Amara’s bone-deep pride was still intact. 1 1.
Forcing her to correct the saleswoman and publicly admit she was relying on him truly would have been deeply humiliating for her.
He hadn’t thought it through. He shouldn’t have asked Amara such a question and hurt her feelings.
Amara took the tissue to wipe her own tears. Sniffling, she naturally let her head rest on his shoulder.
“Hudson, I don’t care what anyone else thinks. The only thing I care about is what you think.”
Hudson raised a hand and patted her shoulder comfortingly.
1
“Didn’t I just say it? I don’t think that way at all. You came to me for help with Cortney, and I kept you both here because I genuinely want to take care of you. From now on, just accept whatever I give you with peace of mind. Don’t overthink it.”
Amara rubbed her cheek affectionately against his shoulder.
“Hudson, you’re so good to me.”
In another car parked not far away,
Through the window, Jade had a crystal-clear view of them cuddling together.
Tears slipped from her hollow eyes. She bit her lip forcefully to keep from sobbing out loud,
She bit down so hard she tasted copper, yet she still didn’t loosen her teeth.
For the past few days, she had constantly suppressed her emotions, terrified of affecting the baby in her womb.
But everything she saw and heard made it impossible to maintain a calm state of mind.
If she stayed any longer in this suffocating environment where joy was completely absent, both she and her unborn child would be driven to their graves.
She had to divorce Hudson as quickly as possible.
Even if she had to cry, even if she had to cause a massive scene.

Hudson and Amara stepped into the living room first, with Jade trailing a few steps behind.
Seeing Hudson appear in the living room, Rosa froze in utter shock.
“Mr. Walter, didn’t you say you were flying abroad for a week on a business trip? Why are you back so suddenly?”
Before Hudson could speak, Amara tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and flashed a sheepish smile.
“I had a minor emergency pop up, and Hudson was worried, so he rushed right back.”
Those words were a blatant announcement to everyone in the room about how incredibly special she was to Hudson and how deeply he cared for her.
Unsure of what to say, Rosa offered an awkward, strained laugh.
“Is that so?”
She quickly pivoted and walked toward Jade.
“Mrs. Walter, Madam brought the doctor over earlier, but you weren’t home. She threw a massive fit and said she’ll bring the doctor again tomorrow. She explicitly told you to skip work tomorrow and be ready for her.”
Jade hadn’t even processed her lingering emotions from the police station before Rosa’s words sent another disruptive wave crashing over her,
“My body is perfectly fine. I don’t need to see a doctor.”
Rosa emphasized, “Those were Madam’s strict orders.”
Jade bit her lip again. She bit down so hard that fresh blood seeped out. 1
Hudson frowned deeply at the sight, striding over to grab Jade’s hand.
“Come upstairs with me.”
Once upstairs, Hudson dug a wet wipe out of a drawer and pressed Jade down onto the bed to sit.
As his shadow fell over her, Jade instinctively shrank back.
“What are you doing?”
Displeased by her dodging, Hudson’s tone deepened.
“Sit still.”
